Sometimes referred to as the Gem of the East Coast, Hualien is one of Taiwan’s more relaxed cities. With such a laid back way of life and so many interesting local attractions, it’s easy to see why this city is a popular tourist destination. And as such the city is full of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses and here are some of the very best.
Hualien WOW Hostel
The industrial theme is prevalent once again in this affordable hostel that’s also located just a short walk from Hualien train station. Hualien WOW Hostel offers modern comforts in a building that feels something like a re-purposed factory. There are exposed walls and even an old shipping container door but don’t let that put you off. This place is very cool and has great clean shared and private rooms along with a quirky lounge area.
Parkview Hotel is the first five-star resort in the city itself and is ideally located just a few short steps from Hualien Golf Course in Hualien Forest Park. This place has everything, including an outdoor pool and a gym. Sure, it’s a little bit of a trek to the city center but if you want a little peace and quiet while relaxing in the lap of luxury, then you can’t go wrong with this hotel.
The Leaf Inn
With its industrial style concrete exterior, The Leaf Inn doesn’t seem like the most appealing of hotels but underneath that minimalist veneer you’ll find a true gem in the heart of Hualien. This hotel is ultra-modern with some really tasteful decor in both the public areas and the rooms. Each has its own particular style and for a hotel in this price bracket, they are pretty luxurious.
Bayhouse Comfortel Hostel
If you prefer accommodation at the affordable end of the scale then Bayhouse Comfortel Hostel is a great option. This cozy little hostel offers shared dorm beds and private accommodation options, both are very well maintained and nicely decorated. You can watch TV in the common room or do your laundry using the on-site machines. The best thing about this hotel though is the location. It’s just a short walk from Hualien train station which makes it super convenient for first-time visitors to the city.
Mini Voyage Hostel
Just a few doors down from WOW Hostel you’ll find Mini Voyage Hostel. What sets this place apart from the other hostels is the incredible lengths the staff and owner will go to for their guests. The people at this place really love helping out visitors to the area and you’ll get some wonderful insider tips on the city. The hostel itself is also quite impressive with great rooms and lots of little nooks and seating areas where you can work out your sightseeing plans for the next day.
Located right by Dongdamen Night Market and the Railway Culture Park, Arsma Hotel is the perfect base for a walking weekend in the city. This four-star property is pretty luxurious for a hotel in its price bracket and has some great facilities. If you have kids then they’ll love the ball pool and playground, while there’s a gym and a table tennis table for the adults. There’s even a garden in the hotel’s central courtyard which is a nice respite from the bustling street of the city.
Li-Shuian International Hotel
Fancy a bird’s eye view of the city? Well, Li-Shuian International Hotel offers exactly that with its relaxing rooftop garden. There’s even a spa plunge pool up on the roof for total relaxation after a day of sightseeing. They also have a karaoke room, a gym, and a chess room to keep you occupied in the evenings. Just a short walk from Hualien Stone Sculpture Museum, this hotel isn’t as central as some may like but the facilities and the fact that it’s close to the forest park make it worth considering.
